My name is Ashley Stroup. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. The volunteer position in China is an exciting extension of my knowledge and desire to help make a difference in the world around me! Here is a little bit about myself...
I have grown up in Overland Park, Kansas and have called it home for most of my life. I am thankful to be surrounded by my wonderful family and friends. If they were to describe me, they would say I am an optimistic, caring, and joyful woman. Those traits, combined with my nurturing heart and inquisitive mind, have played an important role in leading me into the education field.
In 2005, I graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. For me there is no comparison to the joy I receive that takes place when students learn. It is incredible to watch them develop confidence and a stronger sense of self. I am not only fortunate to have a place in their lives, but they also teach my heart as well.
At the Oasis Training Center, I will be teaching courses in Reading, Phonics, and English Literature. I am also excited about the weekly preschool that I will play a part in starting while I am there. Working through the language barrier and culture differences will have its challenges. However, it will be more than rewarding to share in the students’ lives as they learn throughout my time with them as a teacher, and as a friend.
Kevin and I look forward to having you share in this opportunity! We are so thankful for your thoughts and support during this journey. Thank you for partnering with us to make a difference!
